In the interview she said: “I was looking at his academic record…and there was this two sentence, Wikipedia-size blurb about him: ‘William Moulton Marston invented the lie detector in 1913 when he was a sophomore student at Harvard – in 1941 he created Wonder Woman’ – I’m sorry there is not a storyteller in the world who wouldn’t say that is too good to be true!” It was whilst conducting research for a paper on the history of the lie detector, which William Moulton Marston invented, that she was inspired to write about him. Speaking in an interview just after receiving an Hon DLitt (Honorary Doctor of Letters) from the University she spoke in depth about why she decided to write about the DC comic character’s creator William Moulton Marston, what she discovered about his eccentric domestic arrangement and how he used combined images from the female struggle for independence and pornography to invent Wonder Woman. Professor Lepore’s book The Secret History of Wonder Woman was a New York Times bestseller and winner of the 2015 American History Book Prize. Author and recent recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Warwick, Jill Lepore, has been discussing how feminism and pornography both played a part in the creation of the DC comic character Wonder Woman.

She likes to write strong, flawed, relatable characters and throw them into complicated situations with a bit of humor. Her critical views are expressed with poetry and humor in the accessible language that has been her hallmark, and her perspective is informed by her dual practice as a painter and writer and by her experience as a teacher of art. Schor writes across disciplines and is committed to the fluid interrelationship between a formalist aesthetic, a literary sensibility, and a strongly political viewpoint. Mixing theory and practice, the personal and the political, she tackles questions about the place of feminism in art and political discourse, the aesthetics and values of contemporary painting, and the influence of the market on the creation of art. more A Decade of Negative Thinking brings together writings on contemporary art and culture by the painter and feminist art theorist Mira Schor. Whether it’s perfectly cooked or soaked in the rain or fried to a crisp by a lightning strike, it’s his all-time favorite, one and only, go-to meal. Narrator Keegan-Michael Key guides us through the tale of one Sam-I-Am (the ever-upbeat and perfectly cast Adam Devine), an eternal optimist with a sunny personality and a cheerful addiction to (say it with me) green eggs and ham. Then you can have extra fun enjoying the obvious parallels between “PTA” and “GEAH.” If you waited until Thanksgiving weekend to start watching this, you might want to cue up “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” first. “Green Eggs and Ham” indeed has its share of clever touches intended for adults and bigger kids, but at heart and in tone it’s simply a wonderful “cartoon” show sure to keep the little ones glued to the screen. We like to talk about how the best animated films work on two levels: great stuff for the kids, and more sophisticated humor to keep the grown-ups entertained. I will dip into this book for the rest of my life. Her writing has helped so many' Marina Hyde 'A fantastic book. She is simply one of the most significant people of her generation. More Than A Woman is my FRIEND, untangling a lot of my confusion about doing feminism right' Marian Keyes 'Ten years ago How To Be A Woman changed lives. This book is a hilarious memoir, a passionate polemic, and a moving manifesto on how to be a decent person and try, in the face of countless stresses, to live a full open-hearted, joyous life.' This was the first intact ancient, royal Egyptian discovered. This discovery immediately gained international attention, and huge crowds flocked to see the tomb. On the 4th of November 1922 Carter discovered the entrance to the tomb of Tutankhamun. In 1922, growing tired of the lack of results Canarvon offered Carter one more year of funding. This work was interrupted by World War One, but resumed immediately after. He first travelled to Egypt in 1891, where he held several archaeological positions, until in 1907 he was privately funded by the English aristocrat Lord Canarvon to carry out work at Canarvon's excavation sites. Howard Carter is best known for his discovery of the tomb of the 14th century BCE Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun.Ĭarter was an English archaeologist and Egyptologist who devoted his life to archaeology. During his second stay in Australian prison, he began writing Shantaram. His intention was to serve the rest of his sentence to give himself the chance to be reunited with his family. According to Roberts, he escaped prison again during that time but thought better of it and smuggled himself back into jail. He was extradited to Australia and served a further six years in prison, two of which were spent in solitary confinement. In 1990, Roberts was captured in Frankfurt, trying to smuggle himself into the country. He escaped from Pentridge Prison in 1980. Īt the time, Roberts believed that his manner lessened the brutality of his acts but, later in his life, he admitted that people only gave him money because he had made them afraid. He wore a three-piece suit, and he always said "please" and "thank you" to the people he robbed. To finance his drug habit, he turned to crime, becoming known as the "Building Society Bandit" and the "Gentleman Bandit", because he only robbed institutions with adequate insurance. Roberts reportedly became addicted to heroin after his marriage ended and he lost custody of his young daughter. He is a former heroin addict and convicted bank robber who escaped from Pentridge Prison in 1980 and fled to India, where he lived for ten years. Gregory David Roberts (born Gregory John Peter Smith 1952 ) is an Australian author best known for his novel Shantaram. This has happened with other series and will not be the last time. which is why i gave it the rating i did because for the audience it is aimed for it hits most of the right buttons for that demographic just recently Glass Houses: Morganville Vampires, Book 1 became a daily deal as i found out apparently now it has a different narrator it now not available in Australia. The story ends on a major, major cliffhanger so if you like books to at least tidy up most of the main plot threads be prepared to be disappointed Aside form all that the narrator does a good job and the story has enough action to keep you involved if you can forgive the above points. Still the book does hold some charm and should appeal to the younger audience or those who remember who the target audience is. To me some of characters were very immature at times and most of the vampires could be clones. This book is a very much meant for young adults and is not like her some of her other more adult orientated series eg the Weather Warden series.
